Privacy Policy
MakeThisVid is operated by Sovereign Firm (Delaware, USA). This Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to MakeThisVid — not to third-party services we link to.
1. What we collect
- Account data — your email address, account-creation timestamp, subscription and credit-balance state.
- Prompts and uploaded reference images — the text you submit and any images you attach to a generation.
- Generated output — the videos created for your account.
- Billing metadata — handled by Stripe. We receive payment status, the last 4 digits of your card, card brand, and billing country. We do not store your full card number.
- Technical and usage data — request logs, error logs, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, user agent, device type, and product-analytics events via self-hosted PostHog.
- Trust-and-safety signals — when a prompt, upload, or output is blocked by our safety filter, we retain the signal, the prompt, and (where relevant) frames of the blocked content for review, abuse prevention, and regulatory reporting.
- Support correspondence — emails you send us and our replies.
2. How we use it
- To deliver video generations you request.
- To operate the Service — authentication, billing, credit accounting, customer support, transactional email (magic links, receipts, renewal and refund notices, account notifications).
- To enforce our Terms of Service, detect and prevent abuse and fraud, and comply with legal obligations.
- To improve the product — aggregate analytics, crash diagnostics, sampled quality review of prompt-and-output pairs on a de-identified basis.
- To communicate with you about the Service (service announcements, security notices). We do not send marketing email without your consent.
3. What we don't do
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not use your prompts, uploads, or generated outputs to train our own foundation models.
- We do not share individually identifiable content with third parties except with the sub-processors listed below or as required by law.
4. Sub-processors
The Service relies on the following sub-processors. We disclose only what each needs to perform its role:
- Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, edge compute, object storage, DNS.
- Our video-generation model provider — prompts, uploads, and generated outputs are transmitted to an upstream model provider to produce each clip. That provider processes content under its own terms; we do not identify it publicly to limit prompt-injection risk.
- Stripe — payment processing and the customer billing portal.
- Maileroo — transactional email delivery.
- Sightengine — automated moderation of uploads and outputs.
- PostHog — product analytics. Self-hosted by Sovereign Firm on our own Cloudflare and storage infrastructure — no external PostHog cloud service is used.
- Anthropic — safety-classification of prompts in a subset of cases. Prompts sent for classification are not retained by Anthropic for training.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use a first-party session cookie to keep you signed in. We use self-hosted PostHog for product analytics, which sets a first-party cookie used to distinguish devices and count unique users. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can block or clear cookies in your browser; doing so may sign you out and affect some functionality.
6. Retention
We retain data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Specifically:
- Account data and generated videos — retained for the life of your account. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your videos and prompts within a reasonable period, except as noted below.
- Prompts and uploads — retained for operational, debugging, and safety-review purposes. We may shorten retention in the future and will update this Policy accordingly.
- Billing records — retained as long as required by applicable financial and tax law (up to 7 years in the United States).
- Trust-and-safety records — content blocked by safety filters, and related account metadata, may be retained indefinitely for abuse prevention, regulatory reporting, and cooperation with law enforcement.
- Backups and logs — copies of data may persist in encrypted backups and system logs for up to 90 days after deletion from primary stores.
7. Your choices and rights
You can access and update your account email and billing details from the account page and the Stripe billing portal. To request a copy of your personal data, correction of inaccuracies, or deletion of your account, email support@makethisvid.com. We respond within 30 days (or sooner if required by applicable law). We may verify your identity before acting on a request. Some data — including trust-and-safety records, billing records, and information we are required to retain by law — cannot be deleted on request.
Residents of the EU/UK, California, and some other jurisdictions have additional rights under local law (for example, the right to object to certain processing, the right to portability, and the right not to be subject to discrimination for exercising those rights). We honor applicable rights on request and do not discriminate against users who exercise them.
8. International transfers
The Service is operated from the United States. If you access it from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US and in our sub-processors' regions. We rely on standard contractual clauses and equivalent mechanisms where required.
9. Children
MakeThisVid is for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, email support@makethisvid.com and we will delete it promptly.
10. Security
We use industry-standard controls: TLS in transit, encrypted storage at rest, least-privilege access, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach materially affecting your personal data, we will notify affected users without undue delay and in accordance with applicable law.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect (or sooner if required by law or safety). Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
